Toenail fungus is also known as onychomycosis. It is an infection that occurs underneath the nail which is caused by fungi. When an overgrowth of any of these microorganisms occurs that’s when the infection happens. It is easy to ignore since the condition does not cause any pain.
Toenail fungus infection is contagious. You can get it from an infected person or an infected surface. Nail fungus can also affect the fingernails but is more prevalent on toenails. Older men are also more prone to this.

You know that you have nail fungus infection when one toenail or more show the following signs: thickened nail which is hard to trim, whitish to yellowish nail discoloration, the nail is distorted in shape, nail becoming brittle, crumbly, and ragged, the nail may turn darker due to the debris that forms underneath the nail, foul smell from the infected nail, and pain.
