Nail fungus infections are known as onychomycosis to doctors. This condition affects both toenails and fingernails, but it is more common on toenails. It becomes more prevalent among male adults and rarely affects children.

Nail fungal infections bring several changes to the infected nails which include the following: nail thickening and roughness, having brittle or crumbling nail edges, white streaks on the nail, nail discoloration (the nail turns yellow, green, white, or brown), nail separating from the nail bed, pain and tenderness on the infected nail, and a foul odor.
