The infection is mainly caused by exposure and the spread of fungus in the system. Fungus thrives in a dark and wet environment. Fungus is also likely to grow more when your feet are enclosed in a warm and sweaty environment like when you use sweaty socks and boots. This enters the nail through the cracks formed in it. Nail infections can affect people regardless of age. These commonly affect people who are older than 60. Nail infections are also common among people who suffer from diabetes and have blood circulation problems. These are also commonly found in people who have weakened immune systems due to some drugs they’re taking. Men are more prone to this infection compared to women.
