Toenail fungus is a common infection. It is also known as onychomycosis. The most obvious symptom of the infection is discoloration of the nails. It turns brown, white, or yellow. It may start in one toenail and spread to other nails. In the long run, it will cause the nail to become thick and crumble. Some people may think that toenail fungus infection is merely a cosmetic issue, but the toenail fungus can be quite painful and inhibiting some actions.
Physicians usually recommend the use of prescription oral antifungals such as fluconazole (Diflucan) and terbinafine (Lamisil) as nail fungus treatment. These are effective, but they are not without side effects which may vary from upset stomach, dizziness, jaundice, to skin problems.
It’s a good thing that there are many home remedies as alternatives to these prescription medications. One of these is oregano oil.
6Follow the following steps for a more thorough treatment of toenail fungus infection using oregano oil:
Trim the infected nail as much as it is possible. This can be done with the use of a nail clipper or a pair of nail scissors. Be careful that you won’t cut or break the surrounding skin. Use a new nail file and file down the infected area of the nail that was hard to trim. Remember not to use the nail file again. Drop 2 to 3 droplets of the oil on the infected part of the nail. If your skin is broken, avoid doing this since it will burn. Drop oregano oil on the infected area 3 to 3 times a day. You have to trim and file the nail as often as necessary. The treatment may take months since fungus takes a long time to eliminate as well as the nails to regrow.
