Nail fungus infection also goes by the name onychomycosis. It becomes more common among older people, and it seldom affects children. There are many possible causes of the infection, namely yeasts, molds, and dermatophytes.
9Symptoms
It’s easy to figure out the symptoms of a nail fungus infection. The following are the most common symptoms: thickened nails; yellow, white, or brown discoloration of the nails; nails with distorted shape; slightly foul smell; nails become brittle, ragged, and crumbly; and a dark color on the nails caused by the debris that piles up under the nails. Nail fungus affects both toenails and fingernails, but most of the time it infects the toenails.
