Throughout history, both the American and European pennyroyal are used interchangeably as an oil source. Pennyroyal has been used for several purposes such as pneumonia, colds, and other problems. It can also be used for the treatment of excessive gas, stomachaches, liver and gall bladder issues, and also intestinal disorders. When it comes to manufacturing, pennyroyal oil is being used as a dog and cat repellent and also as a fragrance intended for detergents, soaps, and perfumes. 

The American pennyroyal thrives in woods around the northern and eastern regions of the US and Canada. The European pennyroyal can be found in several areas of Europe. Pennyroyal is a perennial creeping herb that produces tiny lilac flowers.
