A nail fungus infection causes your toenails or fingernails to become discolored and misshapen. Usually, callus or dead skin is broken down and accumulates underneath the nail plate. Of all the fungal infections that can affect the body, the hardest to prevent and cure is the nail fungus infection.
5What is the cause of it?
Onychomycosis occurs because of an overgrowth of fungi. Fungi tend to grow and spread in environments that are warm and moist. The fungus usually starts to grow at the tip of the nail plate and continues to spread under the nail. The nail may appear chalky with some white plaques forming on the surface. As the infection goes on, the nail becomes yellowish or brownish. Because the fungus causes cell damage to the nail base, it can make the nail thick and hard to trim. It can also change shape.
